Tom is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who earned his Master’s degree in clinical psychology from the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth. He has other Master’s degrees in Religious Studies from Indiana University, and Logo-therapy (Journaling and Poetry Therapy) from Vermont College. He has interned at in-patient facilities and a local pain management center, as well as working at various local community mental health providers.
He believes in therapy as a powerful means of supporting change. Looking for ways of empowering the individual by giving them the tools and insights they need to achieve their goals in a caring, supportive and non-judgmental way.
Tom’s therapeutic approach is CBT based but he also has knowledge of DBT and existential therapies. He has worked with many individuals on their anxiety and depression as well as those with bi-polar and also with schizophrenic clients who attended a local Clozaril clinic.
He first became interested in the field thru wanting to know how support a family member who was struggling with mental health challenges. He co-founded, and then ran for a decade a local DBSA (depression-bi-polar support alliance) support group.
Tom tries to bring the spiritual insights he has gained from many years of meditation practice to bear in helping individuals learn mindfulness and use other MBCT (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy) tools as a part of a holistic approach to mental health and well-being
